    before the year is out.
    If any of the old people found a horseshoe they considered it to be one of the luckiest of all omens, especially if they found it just after its falling from a horses' foot. They used to nail it to the front door and turn it up - side - down so as to keep in the luck. If it was turned wrong the luck would drop out.
    It was supposed to be a sign of quarrel if a person washed his hands in the water used by another, unless the second person made the Sign of the Cross over the water before using it.
