    down the way towards Ganly's house. My uncle was in such fear and so overcome that he could not proceed towards home. He was compelled to sit on the ditch for some time. With difficulty he reached home later and from that night to this was convinced that he had met with a Ghost. Ever since he made sure to avoid the Black Valley after twelve o'clock at night.

  2. Long ago in our neighbourhood there lived a boy named James Daly. He was treated very badly by his step-mother ; everything he did was done wrongly according to her. Although he was very good and very attentive to his duties on the farm and in and about the house she was never satisfied with anything he did. She often beat him when he did not deserve such treatment and was often without food to punish him for something wrong done of which he was innocent.
