  1. According to tradition there was a hedge - school in the corner of Bernard Mc Kiernan's field in the townland of Coolbawn. It was situated in the corner of a stone ditch and it is to be seen nearly as plain as ever yet.
    It was built of stones and the young people thought it was a little hut for goats. An old woman named Mrs. Margaret Sheridan told that it was a hedge - school, and that her mother went to school there.
    There is a black spot to be seen yet, and she told that there is the place they had the fire. The Masters name was Master Clinton. There is a big flat stone down on the ground which was used as a blackboard. The had no
