In olden times people have been cured of mental diseases by drinking the water. There are no relics left behind at the well.
It is said that St Dympna rode a horse and in jumping down from a rock one of the horses hooves sank in a large stone and here the well sprang up.
There are some trees growing around the place and recently a beautiful statue of St Dympna has been erected by Rev. Henry Galligan. PP. Lavey.
St Dympna suffered martyrdom at the hands of her pagan father in Gheel.
