- St. Patrick's Day was always a day of great rejoicing in this district. The religious observances were always faithfully carried out in this district; the remainder of the day was spent in merrymaking in various forms. In the days of my grandfather it was customary to hold Home Rule meetings on that day. Many a time the demand for Irish Independence was repeated on that day.
"Patrick's Crosses" were worn by all children, and shamrocks by all grown ups. Every mother, no matter how busy used to make Patrick's crosses for her children. No one ever appears in Public on St Patrick's Day without a Shamrock. The men(continues on next page)- Collector
