Another trick is to get three saucers put clay on one, water on another and a ring on the third. Then the player is blindfolded and he is led to the table where the saucers are. If he puts his hand on the ring he will be married. If he puts his hand on the water he will go across the sea. If he puts his hand on the clay he will be buried.
On Hallowee'n night the fairies or "good people" are supposed to be out. People long ago used to leave the table set all night with plenty of food on it, or leave a mug of tea and a slice of bread across it at the fire.
