- (continued from previous page)The bed was beside the fire and the fire was in the middle of the floor. The people used to sit on a big board with four sticks under it.
- Long ago people had only three meals a day: one was eaten at 8a.m. another at 12a.m. and the third at 6p.m. People did not work before breakfast except on Good Friday. Porridge was eaten at breakfast and new milk was taken with it. Potatoes and cabbage was eaten at dinner: meat was eaten on Monday, Wednesday amd Saturday. The people sat round the table at the wall/ Wheaten bread was eaten by farmers on Sunday. It was made with wheaten meal and milk mixed with watter. Turnips and lettuce was eaten. Nothing was eaten after supper. On Ash Wednesday nothing was eaten till twelve am: then they got bread made on water and sour milk: they did not eat eggs ot butter on Ash Wednesday. Tea was used in the district about thirty years ago.
