  1. The Prophet Hanly
    Brígid Ní Cheallaigh
    John Hanly, or the Prophet Hanly, as he was usually called lived in Oakley in this parish when he was young but when he got old he went to Roscrea Hospital where he did about the year 1922.
    He had Colmcille's prophecies off by heart.
    Here are some of the prophecies he made:-
    Cars would go the roads, but horses wouldn't be wanted to draw them.
    That the Leap Castle would be burned and a monastery built in it's place of the same stones.
    That the war would never be over till the Boyne would run red with blood.
    That a spring would be sown but there would be no one to reap the harvest because the men would be called to the ward in the year 1940.
