- For a while before 1874 some children of the parish attended the Protestant School at the cross of Clareen. The building is still there and is used as a dwelling house (Tim Guinan). The last Catholic teacher before John O'Neill was Frank Carroll who taught in his own house in Derrybeg. Frank taught for a while before his death under the National Board. The priest's house Fr. Kennedy was on the opposite side of the road, and the chapel a short distance from it. All are on Larry Maher's land (except chapel)On this subject more on last page of book.
