- About seventy-five years ago, the schools were not like now. The boys and girls went to the same school. Each one had to pay seven shillings every fourth month or they would not be taught. Anyone that liked could stay at home. It was women taught. They were very cross. Anyone that missed a word would get four slaps. Many boys stayed at home nearly every day.
