The Battle of the Pound. (The Tithe War)
A man lived where Sullivan's live now in Gurteen, Bunclody. He heard that there was fighting in the Pound, Ryland Rd. Bunclody, and he said that he would go down to see what was on. His wife told him not to go, that his dinner would be ready soon. The man said that he would be back at twelve o'clock. He was shot going across the Slaney Bridge. At the stroke of twelve his wife saw his ghost passing the table where his dinner was and she knew he was dead.
She said, "The Lord have mercy on your soul."
