- 189Buying and Selling.Shops were not common in olden times . Buying and selling was carried on after Mass. Food was sold in this way. Money was not always given for goods. Goods were often bartered in the district. Labour was often given in exchange for goods.
Words such as "tick" and "strap" were used when a thing was bought and not paid for. Also "score" and "boot" and "cant".
There used to be hucksters and pedlars dealing in feathers and rags. Some of them come still.
The market was held on the Market Square and it is held there still.From John Wall,
