    The sand-martin makes her nest in sand.
    Other birds are the blue-bird, the cuckoo, the owl, the hawk, the black-cap, the fish crane, (called locally the Conn Éisg), the french jay, the curlew, the phesant, the bullfinch, the phillipine, the chaffinch, the woodpecker.
    There is a story told to explain the red breast of the robin. "When the robin saw Our Lord on the cross it tried to take the nails out of His hands and feet and some of His Blood fell on the robin's breast."
