    throughout the town taking food and rest found it an easy matter to overcome them. They took the town in less than an hour and the insurgents thus lost what they had won in the morning. The wounded and dead on both sides were about the same.
    Father Kearns was not afraid of anything; he would go to battle with only his horse whip in his hand. Father Mogue Kearns and another leader were hanged in Edenderry as after the battle they escaped that far. Their grave may be seen there today.
