People here still leave candles lighted in their windows or in their houses all night on all Saints night "to light the Poor Souls on the way to Heaven."
They will not (at least the old folk) throw out water on that night - and in fact will not go abroad at night lest they tread upon the poor souls.
These were the religious beliefs of 60 years ago - the oldest inhabitants can only tell of them. They themselves don't follow them, except the burning of candles all night on all Souls night.
