The hats here made, went far afield, and Litter head gear was a sort of Parisian luxury in these days. They were made of Straw, neatly plaited together - the plaits were then dyed + brought to the "shaper" to form the hat.
The strips of Plaits were usually of 2 colours - Black + white or Black + yellow.
My narrator of this craft informs me that a great grandfather of a young man (Patrick Carty of Tinteskin) used do the straw collecting + plaiting, and the dyeing, and then pass in the strips to a Mrs Murphy who lived at Litter, near the Church, who used(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
