    For it was his inclination to take her life away,
    It would grieve your heart with pity to see how she was used,
    The clothes were torn off her as you read the daily news,
    Her neck and face were covered o'er with flowing blood you see,
    By the hand of some cruel murderer who proved her destiny.
    The priest and doctor were sent for,
    And police too, likewise,
    When they got their information they went out in disguise,
    Soon they arrested Joseph Heffernan and that without delay,
    And placed him in Kilmainham jail until his trial day.
    The morning of her murder to the altar-rails she went,
    And to the Lord in heaven above her prayers to him she sent.
    For modest good behaviour she always took this way,
    But now poor Mary Walker lies mouldering in the clay,
