    About seven or eight o'clock in the morning the Irish country family generally awakens. If the family is grown up one of the bigger girl arises. If not the mother arises first and proceeds to light a fire. The fire is generally raked. That is, wet sods are put on it, and covered with ashes, to keep out the air, the previous night.
