    Now every creature is at rest
    Except the dog and corncrake
    While I with anxious cares oppressed
    My pensive way through fields I take.
    You noisy curs why do you bark
    The sleeping purple to alarm
    Tho' I'm alone and in the dark
    I do not mean you any harm.
    You corncrakes among the grass
    Why do you make so much ado
    While I in sorrow by you pass
    But Oh my grief's unknown to you.
