  1. The old Catholic Church of Longford town was situated where the McGoey Hall now stands. The gates of this old church are at present at the house of Joseph Dean park Rd, There was a night school where Chapel Lane now stands. Mr Thomas McGarry taught there and the chaplain was a Father James Reynolds. Grown up people attended this school.
    The First National School in Longford was on the left side of Killashee Street. The roll number of the School was 8,263. The School was called Boher na Mona (the Bog Road).
    The Chapel-lane school above mentioned was broken up at the time of the Fenians. The Boher na Mona School was changed at St Michael's Present National School and the Mercy nuns taught in the bottom part of the same school.
