- Long ago the people used to eat very strong food. The men and women who lived then were far stronger than they are to day.
They used to use very little flour. Oaten Dumplings were one of the foods they used to eat. This is how to make them, get a basin half full of oaten meal add two spoonfulls of salt to the meal. Then get a handful of flour and mix all together. Get some soft water and wet the meal and salt with it. Then mix all well. When the mixture is well mixed form it into round balls.
Then flatten these balls until they are about an inch thick. Boil a pot of water and when it is boiled make gruel and put the dumplings into it and boil them. They can be boiled with mutton either.(continues on next page)- Collector
