  1. On Saint Stephen's Day a number of boys and sometimes men gather together and go out to bury the wren.
    They dress themselves with old clothes and generally wear false faces.
    When they go to the door they will dance and sing the following song -
    The wren, the wren, the king of all birds,
    On Saint Stephen's Day was caught in the furze
    Although she is little, her family is great,
    Rise up landladies and give us a treat,
    Or if you will not I will bury her at your gate.
    This old custom of burying the wren comes down to us from the very earliest times
