honour of Our Lord's death on the Cross.
They would plant cabbage seed on the Eve of Lady Day, the 14th August & any seed not planted on that day was a failure. When the people would be moving to a new house they always moved on Friday as it was counted a very lucky day. They said it was unlucky to bring a cat from the old home. They always said it was very lucky to see two magpies hopping before them on their journey. They also said it was unlucky to enter the new house by the back door.
