  1. In this district long ago Patrick O'Hara, Blackislands County Longford was the best boats-man on Lough Ree. He was able to row a racer three miles in six minutes. My grand-father Willie Ganley, Inchturk Island, Glasson, was drowned and a man named Hanley from the County Longford swam to shore and was saved. Peter Quigley was able to swim a hundred yards in three minutes and was able to catch a duck by swimming after her
