  1. There is a field on the Harbour Road beside Brennans and there is a hill in it called the Mass Hill. It is believed Mass was said there during the Penal times.
    Some-times the Priest made appointments for Mass to be said in certain houses, then all the neighbours gathered to that house. The Priest had to disguise himself in order not to be captured by the Priest-hunters, who were very numerous in this district.

  2. There was a Mass Rock in Balrath and it is said by old people that a priest was caught saying Mass at it in the penal times. He was captured and hanged out of Balrath tree.
