- Tom Whelan - Friarstown Dalystown was a rope maker. He made them from some sort of wood - perhaps sally or bog dale. He made something like shavings of the wood and twisted them into robes. They used to make the frames of beds from these ropes - the irons and wire mattresses as we have now. This is 100 ago. This man is about 40 years dead.
