- The local fairs are held chiefly in the large towns but in the grazing districts all the villages generally hold a fair once a month and especially in the Royal County of Meath where the farmers make their living chiefly by grazing.
The buying or selling of stock was always held at the fairs where the farmers used to enjoy themselves drinking on that day, but now-a-days buyers usually come to the farms and buy the stock with the result that fairs are steadily on the decline. The fairs are held in specially prepared places such as fair greens or paddocks except in the small(continues on next page)
