He preferred to walk and maintained that he would do the journey in less time and with less trouble than if he took the cart with him.
I did not hear this story directly from Matthew Reilly but from a person who was intimately acquainted with him. This Matthew Reilly it will be interesting to note was a policeman at the time of the dramatic escape of James Stephens from prison and was supposed to be one of the Fenian policemen on guard at the prison. At his death he was given a military funeral. The above story refers to his father.
