    There lived in the vicinity of Rathcore Enfield Co Meath in 1879 a young man called Timothy Glynn.

    to Rathcore. So drunk was he that he did not see the overflow which flows into the canal at Enfield till he stumbled into it. He no sooner touched the water than he became sober. He began to cry out loudly for help and as if in answer to his cries he saw a well dressed man standing on the brink of the overflow. He asked the man to help him out and the man asked him what would he give him if he did. So Glynn told him he would give him all he possessed if he would only take him out quickly. The man then made him promise that he would give him his first born son when it was seven years of age. Being a young unmarried man and still under the influence of drink he gave the promise readily. The stranger then helped him out and brought him home and left him at his own door.
    Years rolled by and Glynn soon forgot the incident and
