Once upon a time there was a girl named Mary Smyth who lived in the Townland of Cross, Co. Cavan. One day she went to the river to bathe. As she was bathing a fairy man came up out of the water riding a beautiful white horse. He told her to get up behind on the horse. She got afraid and would not get up. Immediately another fairy man came and pushed her up on the horse. They rode through the water for about
