  1. There are many pet names for horses:
Lily, Daisy, Nellie, Lucy, Fanny, Bob, Soldier & Darkie.
The stables are divided into stalls, a horse is kept in each stall. They are tied with a rope, with a strap on the end to go round the horse's neck. Horses will not eat thistles but an ass will. A saying about the ass is:- "An ass endures his burden, but not more than his burden."
Sayings about the horse are:- "The fault of the horse is put in the saddle." "To the greedy eating horse a short halter" "Good horses make short miles" "Take heed of an ox before & a horse behind" "The horse knows not what his tail is worth until he has lost it." "It is good walking with a horse in one's hand." "It is a proud horse that will not carry its own provender."
