    One day when he was on the return journey to Mellifont a man met him on the way who attempted to rob the food carried by the pony. As he put his hand into the satchel a sudden fear seized him as he discovered that by some unknown power he was unable to steal anything from the satchel or withdraw his hand from the bag. He had to walk with the pony the whole road to Mellifont until the pony delivered the food safely to the holy monks. When the monks released him he was well punished.
