- Long ago when there were no machines for making soap people used to make it in their homes. First they got all the old unwanted fat from the butcher. This they cleaned and cut in small pieces. They then got a large iron pot and put the sliced fat into it. This they boiled with lime to purify the fats.
When boiling they put soda into the pot to make the soap washable. It was then left to cool. When cool it was taken out of the pot and cut slabs. They then packed the soap and sold it to the shopkeepers.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
