  1. About forty five years ago a cargo boat the Surprise - Inverness was wrecked in a storm at the back of the island at Freagh Castle .
She left Liscannor bound for Liverpool with a cargo of flags . The night was dark and stormy with the result that she was driven on to the rocks and became a complete wreck.
One of the crew was drowned the others got food and shelter at Mr. Kennys until they left for their homes in England . Some of her cargo can be seen yet at the back of the island where she was wrecked.
