A story is told of a ship that was wrecked in the White Strand about a hundred years ago.The cargo consisted of tea, American bacon, lard etc.The wind was from the west and all the goods were washed ashore and were collected by the people of the locality.This was the first time that American bacon and teas were introduced round the place.At first the people used to boil the tea leaves and eat them.Afterwards they were taught how to use them properly.Old people say that the chain and anchor were to be seen until recently during big Spring tides.The graves of the crew of the ill fated ship are to be seen over Kerin's hole.Written by Bernard O'Keeffe who got this story from Michael Hynes, Ennistymon Road. 65 years
