To satisfy her passions she summoned her neighbour to the court at Milltown Malbay. when giving her evidence there she was slapped on the back by her daughter, saying not to be nervous while she was telling the truth. She had only begun her speech about the stealing of the hen and about the feathers outside the neighbour's door, when her youngest daughter came in saying that the hen was found hatching in a nest behind the house.
