  1. Two miles from my house there is a cabin which was used as a school fifty years ago. The cabin is belonging to Willy Curtin of Ballyea. The teacher was a Kerry man. He used stay a night at every scholars house. There were no seats but the scholars had to sit on the floor. They did all their work on slates and the chalk they had was a bit of stone. If they did not do their work, they teacher would get a long stick and put them against the wall and slash the. There was a school in Drinagh where our stable is now. The scholars used go there from all parts of the district.
