    was tenanted in Steele's time by a member of the Crowe family. Mr. Crowe had a daughter who was remarkable for her great beauty and Steele became so infatuated with love for this beautiful girl that it is said he would sit for hours in the rock in order to catch a glimpse of her at her father's window overlooking the Fergus. It appears the love was not reciprocated and the girl had no intention of marrying Steele. As a matter of fact Steele never married. Whether by instructions of the Crowe family or owing to some mischief making young people of the town, the rock was found
