  1. Long ago there were many hardships and one of these is a ship that was wrecked outside Quilty. The name of this ship was the Leon. The sea was very stormy that day and the ship had a load. It was going to sail up the Shannon but the storm was so great that it put it off its course and dashed it against a rock outside Quilty. The people of the place came to their rescue. The sailed out in their frail little boats. They left their wives on the shore
