  1. In olden times almost all the toys were homemade. Some of those were tops, cribs, snares and pop-guns.
    The tops were made from crab-trees and were then sent to the nearest smith to have spears put in them. A light switch was then needed to put the top spinning.
    Cribs were made to catch birds. Ranks of elder sticks were tied together, and then a sally-switch was arranged in the crib to keep it a certain height from the ground.
