The farmyard dop, their nighty watch
    Were keeping by each byre
Hark! listen to their howlings drear
    Their notes are rising higher.
Amid the stilness of the scene
    Along the silent road
Is heard the tramp of troopers' feet
    No tidings good they bode
    Brian Purcell's farmyard is reached
    "Halt" cried their leader stern
    "Alight" surround the domicille
    Escape not let a "Kern.
Burst open in a twinkling wide
    Is Brian Purcell's door
    And England's ruffian soldiers red
    Are standing on the floor
"Are James and John inside old man."
