About forty years ago there was lime made in nearly every farm place. There is an old limekill on our farm where lime was made. The lime was made by putting turf in first and then stones and then "collen" and it was put fire to.Local Trades

The old way of separating the grain from the straw was done by a flail and on a windy day the hull ( the shell of the grain) is taken from the grain by the wind. The corn was crushed by dropping the grain between two flat stones and it was made into flour.Local Trades

Up to fifty years ago, a flail was used for threshing the corn. It consisted of two sticks joined end to end by a twine. One was held in the hand while with the other the corn was threshed.Local Trades
