    Born Thomastown Castle, Bansha. Oct. 10th 1790
    Fourth son in family of nine boys and three girls
    Father James Matthews of Two-mile Borris, Thurles, Catholic
    Mother Anne Whyte daughter of George Whyte of Cappawhite. Catholic
    His father was Estate Agent for his kinsman
    Francis Matthew, late of Irish Parliment, Earl of Landaff, Protestant
    Charge of his education undertaken by Lady Elizabeth Matthew. Protestant
    Joined Capuchin Order 1808. Ordained 1814
    Elected Provincial of Cap Order 1822
    Temperance Crusade started Apr. 10th 1838
    Died Dec 8th 1856
    Thomastown Castle and demense belonged to Francis Matthew Lord Landaff. James Matthew his agent was but a tenant on the Estate Lady Elizabeth of the Entertainments, was daughter of the noble Lord.
