  1. Once upon a time there was a widow. Her name was Mrs Casey. She had one son Tom. He was always very lazy, would not go to school and when he grew up he would not work. Still he was very clever and full of tricks.
    The parish priest a Father O'Riellly was always advising him to work and not to be lazy, but he would not heed him. He used to come every day to see what Tom as doing. The widow used give some excuse and Tom used to hide. One day he was in the kitchen with his mother when he heard a step outside. He said "Oh here he is" and jumped into a settle-bed near him. The mother only half closed it and was standing on the floor when the priest came in. "Where is Tom" he asked and sat down on the bed. She gave some excuse and told how he was getting. Tom was now smothering for want of air for in the cover of the settle-bed
