    is. Many of these middle men's families are not extinct and their land left to strangers. These middle men adopted the role of being above even the ordinary farmers and well known as gentlemen farmers and were most insulting to their neighbours upon whom they looked with disdain. They followed "the Hunt" to be like the gentry and up to a few years ago, the people could not order them off the land.
