  1. We were not able to trace any account of Hedge-Schools in Duxtown. There is the ruin of an old school to be seen yet in Ballyea. It was built at John J O'Grady's gate in Ballyea. A man named Normoyle taught in this school he was a stranger. This man was not liked by the people. One day they attempted to shoot him, in the school. Normoyle's daughter was married to Carthy of Duxtown and it was in this land Normoyle eventually was shot. He was buried there.
