    And to Erin I simply sailed o'er,
    Where rack - reuts and famine,
    Have drove men to death,
    And out casts to some foreign shore.

    I simply came over to see for myself,
    'Twas night when the north wind did roar,
    When shelter to gain,
    From the wind and the rain,
    Sure I called to an Irishman's door.
