- Candles were made in olden olden days from the fat of a cow or goat. The fat would be melted in a large can and then throw into a mould and left there until it would be hard. The wick would be made from cotton and it would be drawn at each side by a nail. This make was called "páideog" [?].
A rush was also pealed until the inside was used as a wick and was called "geacairí". The country people made their own candles and they calld them tallow candles. The candles were made in most houses locally, the moulds were made from tin. Soup was also made in the district, the stuffs used were(continues on next page)
