    The townlands convenient to the school are:-
    Carrickerry, Knocnagun, Glensharrold, Glenastar, Knocknaboha, Ballinabearna, Ballyloughane, Knockfinisk, Glenagore, Baranigue, Glendiheen.
    Carrickerry (Carraig Ciarraige) means the Rock of Kerry
    Knocknagun (Cnocán na gCon) means the Hill of the Hounds
    Glensharrold (Gleann Searbh Uball) means the Glen of the Sour Apples
    Glenastar (Gleann Eas Daíre) means the Glen of the Daar Waterfall.
    Knocknaboha (Cnoc na mBotha) means the hill of the tents
    Ballinabearna (Baile na Beárna) means the Townland of the Gap
    Ballyloughane (Baile Locaín) means the Townland of the loughs.
    Knockfinisk (Cnoc an Fhíor Uisge) means the Hill of the Spring water.
    Glenagore (Gleann na nGabhar) means the Glen of the Goats
    Baranigue (Bárr an Fhiaidh) means the Hill of the Deer
    Glendiheen (Gleann Doimhin) means the Deep Glen.

    The district in which I live is mostly all reclaimed cutaway bog. Still there are some ancient fields, high hills, and beautiful glens to be found in this locality. There is one field about a quarter of a mile to the North of Carrickerry National School known as Leaba Thadg, or the bed of Tim. A Large stone slabs can be seen there. Tadg was a robber who is supposed to have lived there long ago.
