   at thing as separators long ago. The milk was put in pans, when the cows would be milked, and left until the cream would rise to the top. Then it would be skimmed with a milk-skimmer. In the summer when the weather would be warm, milk would get sour very quick, and there wouldn't be much cream. In winter when the weather is so cold, the cream would take a long time to rise, and people wouldn't have so much butter.
   With the separator it is different, as the cows are milked it is separated, while it is warm. A lot of people now send their milk to the creamery, as it is less trouble. They are paid so much a pound for the butter-fat, and they get the separated milk back.
